Conference Report

  by Professor Dr. Hermann Rohling,
IRS 2015 Symposium Chairman

The city of Dresden is located at the river Elbe and has a long colourful history. Although Dresden is a relatively recent city of Slavic origin, it is well-known as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony. It is nowadays the capital city of the Saxony State in Germany.

The International Radar Symposium IRS 2015 was organized from the 24th to the 26th of June 2015 at the Westin Bellevue hotel in the city centre of Dresden directly located at the river Elbe.

Many young scientists joined the radar conference and presented their interesting research results during oral and poster sessions. In total 198 papers have been presented in 36 technical sessions.

The Symposium chairman, Prof. Dr. Hermann Rohling, and the technical programme co-chair, Dr. Anna Dzvonkovskaya, opened the conference and welcomed all the participants.

The IRS 2015 was an outstanding international symposium with interesting scientific presentations and exhibitions. The technical contributions were of high quality and it was an ideal place for meetings and discussions. In total 18 exhibitors presented their industrial products and scientific activities. The conference atmosphere was very good, like a large worldwide radar family.

It was the 16th IRS conference and the  sequence of International Radar Symposia, started in Munich (IRS 98), followed by the  Symposia in Berlin (2000), Bonn (2002), Dresden (2003), Warsaw (2004), Berlin (2005), Krakow (2006), Cologne (2007), Wroclaw (2008), Hamburg (2009), Vilnius (2010), Leipzig (2011), Warsaw (2012), Dresden (2013) and Gdansk (2014) have become in many respects a very successful series of International Radar conferences organized and chaired by Prof. Dr. Hermann Rohling from the Hamburg University of Technology (Opens window for sending emailrohling(at)tu-harburg.de).
